Potential Issue in Sales Tax Reports

For Users of QuickBooks 2009 R9

Bill Teague, Managing Editor, Intuit ProConnection

Intuit has just released an Alert to its QuickBooks ProAdvisors and will soon release an Alert to all its customers using QuickBooks 2009. The reason? Under certain conditions, the Sales Tax Liability and Sales Tax Revenues reports could present incorrect totals.

Triggering Event

The problem was introduced in QuickBooks 2009 Release 9, but will only present under the following circumstances: When the sum total of the number of transactions multiplied by the number of vendors exceeds 10,000.

Recommended Action

Today’s ProAdvisor Alert, which you can see as a PDF here, identifies recommended steps for users of R9. Those who have not generated or submitted reports to sales tax authorities since updating to R9 are encouraged to wait until R10, which is expected out as a manual download on Wed., Dec. 16, or as an Automatic Update the next day. Those who have already submitted reports to tax authorities prepared under R9 are asked to run and submit corrected reports; Intuit has also created a unique email address for users in the last category who may need additional advice or help:
